The end of the begining

As I come back to my poor lonesome blog I cannot help but to dwell over the fact that i've let down my poor 8 followers. You know who you are. I'd realized that making recipes from a recipe book that I am no longer too fond of, takes the fun out of it. The Hershey's recipe book, although had delicous and chocolately treats the book takes way too many short cuts, and it just isn't something that makes your final product fulfilling. Along with that I've also realized that I would more rather enjoy random baking spurs (something which I get atleast 3 times a weeks) and sharing my random recipes from books, google recipes or my own creations with you. Apposed to HAVING to make a specific recipe from a book that I've learned to dislike. So for that to my 8 followers I apologize :( . But the good news is i'm still going to be around! :) I'm creating a new blog in the mindset of 'starting from scratch'. I feel this seems appropriate for many reasons. One being that i really will be starting all over from scratch. With the fail of this blog challenge starting from scratch with something improved will be great! Reason two is it mocks the damn Hershey's book who decided not to start from scratch but take stupid little short cuts! Hershey's, if you're reading this, you have offended bakers all over the world and i now hate you! (I think my friend vivian will kill me now :S ). and third reason being "starting from scratch!"........baking.....making stuff from scratch....get it!? hahahah, pun intended, but i think you guys already got that..haha. Anyways guys! I'm off to make this brand new blog with an optemistic mind after my halarious punn :). I'll link the new blog when i've made it! :)

Happy Days!

Hershey's White and Dark Chocolate Fudge Torte

Hey everyone

So as I start this much too ambitous project I can't help but think how I should, for lack of words, "grade" each recipe. After making my first recipe today I have developed a strong hatred towards Hershey! I didn't ever think i'd say that in my life, but its true. I've decided to leave the Hershey basing until the end of my project (If i have the will power to make it through these recipes). But I have decided on marking scheme for the recipes. I'll give each recipe a score from 1-5 (5 being the highest). The first recipe I made today was "Hershey's White and Dark Chocolate Fudge Torte". Sounds yummy doesnt it? Even though I am a huge chocolate lover! This torte left my teeth aching and probably made them more cavity prone than they already were. The recipe seems to take a little too many short cuts that obviously worsen (is that a word?) the end result. However, if you're a person who likes bitter sweet chocolate and lots of it, this recipe is great for you, it just needs a bit of tweaking. Heres the recipe :).

The Torte

1 Cup butter or magarine, melted
1 1/2 Cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla
3 eegs, separated
2/3 Cups Hershey's Cocoa (you can use any brand)
1/2 Cups all purpose flour
3 tbsp water
2 Cups White chocolate chips
1/8 tsp cream of tartar

1. Preheat oven to 350F, you'll need to line a springform pan with foil and grease it. (Using a springform pan is needed! i tried using a normal pan and it did not work)

2. - Combine the butter, sugar and vanilla and beat well.
- Add the egg yolks one by one mixing after adding each yolk.
- Blend in cocoa, flour and water. Mix in 1 2/3 cups of white chocolate chips.
*In a separte bowl*
- beat egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff peaks form (about 5 minutes)
- fold the egg white mixture into the batter

3. Pour the batter into the greased pan and bake for about 45 minutes (the top should begin to crack slightly).
- Cool for one hour, cover and refridgerate until firm.

Satiny Glaze
1 Cup Dark chocolate or semi sweet chocolate chips
1/4 Cup whipping cream

- Microwave chocolate chips and whipping cream in small microwave safe bowl for 1 minute.
- Remove and mix, reheat for 15 seconds if needed

White Decorator Drizzle
1/3 Cup White chips ( divided from the amount called from torte recipe)
2 tsp shortening (Don't use butter or margarine)

- Microwave white chocolate chips and shortening in small microwave safe bowl for 20 to 30 seconds.
- Remove, mix and reheat for 10 seconds if needed.

4. Pour the Satiny glaze over the torte and sides.
- Drizzle white chocolate drizzle with a spoon or you could use a piping bag. (NOTE* make sure you're white chocolate is melted completely smoothly or else the piping bag will block)

That's the recipe guys. Like i said the recipe does take some annoying shortcuts such as micowaving chocolate to melt it. I have never been fan of micowaving chocolate or heating right from the pot. I did try to microwave it, it's great if you're short on time but i'd reccomend using a double boiler (a pot with boiling water and place the chocolate in a bowl on top of the pot).
The white chocolate drizzle doesn't work too well unless you do buy "Hershey's Premier white chips". I used normal white chocolate chips and they don't melt as well. I do feel though, that the recipes in this book are trying to get you to buy the Hershey's product more than provide you with good, satisfactory desserts.

For those reasons i give this recipe a 2.5 out of 5!

Lets see how my next recipe goes, i may have to switch books :p

Anyways everyone, next week is going to be a crazyyy week! With softball, doing hair for the Grease play and my multi cultural dance. Along with keeping up with my classes and test and the 4 quizzes teachers like to hand out in one week! Wish me luck and i hope you all have a great week! :)

My next recipe: Petite Mocha Cheesecake
- Although i think i maybe sick of hershey's chocolate from this torte.

Talk to you next time :) Happy Days

Starting Point

Heyy Everyone!

I've been wanting to do this for a while as I'm intensively bored with my time. So I have decided to create this blog and work my way through some of the many baking books I have (Shockingly, I haven't made anything from my baking books. Google is my aid!). I'm excited about this and it should be fun, I'm hoping to have a new post every week :).

My first project is, "Hershey's Recipe Collection". This is an amazing book, with over 475 recipes! Thanks to my cutiee for buying it for me :). The best thing about it is there's pictures for almost all the recipes! (The one thing I hate is is baking books without pictures! How do I know what my outcome is suppose to look like!). Of course I won't be making all 475 recipes, but I will bake the most appealing ones, chosen by me :). (Note* I'm a HUGE chocolate lover, so be ready to be lavished with chocolate galore). I hope to have a recipe up within the next two days, since I have this beauitfully rainy day off. Isn't the rain just lovely? Sarcasm doesn't work well while typing does it? haha. Anyways, i really hope you guys enjoy my little project.

Talk to you next time! :)
